Faro convention network meeting

Žemuju Šančiai bendruomenė hosts the annual meeting of the Council of Europe, Faro Convention Network with members from 10 countries. Šančiai bendruomenė has been an active member since 2014. Faro Convention highlight the value of heritage for the benefit of the society, for rule of law, for human rights and democracy. In Šančiai it is an instrument used to protect local identity, safeguard cultural and landscape heritage, and to confront organised groups working against the public interest.

The Faro Network, itself, is a concrete example off Faro’s concept of ‘heritage communities in practice’. It is self-organized, with members and friends collaborating on civil society and citizen-up initiatives to create sustainable communities.

Lithuanian will have the Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe in 2024 but it has not ratified Faro yet. Estonia, Latvia and Poland have already ratified the Convention.
