Main Information

D.I.V.E. the activity started with a tour of Šančiai with a guide Rolanda Girskiene, which was attended by 20 people. At the beginning of the tour, Vegard Kaasen Engen introduced the participants to the D.I.V.E. methodological information, delivered the tables and explained how to fill them during the tour, gathering information about valuable objects. The tour started at 12 p.m., and went on for 2 hours. Later, the workshop continued in the tea room "Veranda". People identified, researched, interpreted and evaluated the cultural heritage of Šančiai. Each participant chose a significant object of Šančiai architecture, which is not yet included in the list of registered heritage. The workshops revealed an individual approach to the valuable objects of the district, which could become the official cultural heritage of the city. Information about these objects was systematized using D.I.V.E. method. In the 8-hour workshop, three valuable objects of Šančiai were selected - the territory of the former cinema "Taika", the synagogue and the house of the poet Degutytė. Some participants emphasized great value to the spatial structure of the district, the wooden architecture and the spirit of the place: https://vimeo.com/607741637

The workshop was attended by 21 participants, 1 facilitator, 2 interpreters. Duration - 8 hours.

D.I.V.E. meaning:

Describe: what do I observe with my senses (i.e. sight, sound, touch, taste, smell)? These are neutral, objective, verifiable facts. Interpret: why is it valuable to me, what do I think about what I notice (i.e. what, what, when, where, why, how)? Reveal subjective, personal thoughts and opinions. Be a detective - use descriptions and try to hypothesize about an object. Valuate: which elements of this object have the highest value? Can these elements develop and change? Talk to an expert in the field (a person who is a cultural representative or someone who understands the situation better) about it. Ask the opinions of several experts as they can provide a wealth of perspectives, reliable information, and / or more context about what you are observing. Enable: make concrete suggestions on how the district’s historic features and resources should be identified and strengthened. Define a possible area of cultural heritage sites and a strategy for action, propose specific management and development measures.

The workshop leader is Vegard Kaasen Engen, an archaeologist and educator, currently an artificial cultural heritage department in the municipality of Bodo, Norway. He is responsible for D.I.V.E. implementation of the process in Bodo. The session will be translated from English into Lithuanian.

The workshop was attended by 21 participants, 1 facilitator, 2 interpreters. Duration - 8 hours.

This event is part of the district's cultural festival "Šančinės" and the project "Genius loci: urbanization and civil society". The project is funded by the EEA and Norwegian financial mechanisms.
