URBAN VISION NO. 1 offers a whole range of urban models suitable for Šančiai district of Kaunas city, while leaving the functional zoning, building height and intensity as proposed in the currently valid General Plan of the city of Kaunas. The Vision highlights the most important streets and paths for pedestrian movement in Šančiai, which connect parts of the mosaic of subcultures that determine the urban uniqueness of the territory. These places should be focal points to develop new public spaces and objects while giving priority to pedestrians.
Šančiai Vision is based on the theory of urban acupuncture, local residents' knowledge and urban modeling. That allows to see Šančiai as a multidimensional sensitive living organism which can be stimulated in context-sensitive ways.
The Vision is presented with the help of the architectural language created by Christopher Alexander, naming time-tested architectural and urban patterns which encourage social life and create solutions promoting a sense of local well-being which should be protected, developed and created in the territory of Šančiai.
URBAN VISION NO. 2 offers a whole series of urban patterns suitable for Šančiai district of Kaunas city, and, taking into account the organically formed mosaic of subcultures, proposes to reduce the height and intensity of buildings specified in the General Plan of the city of Kaunas. The proposal to change these indicators is based on the "Hot Spot" GIS analysis presented in the Vision, which, when evaluating the characteristics of each plot, made it possible to distinguish organically forming areas with different urban indicators.
