Maps of Šančiai

To address the problem of unsustainable urbanization that is detrimental to the interests of local residents, we have created interactive maps of the Šančiai district of Kaunas city. They enable citizens to participate directly in the democratic process of creating the city. The three interactive maps "Memory" , "Present" and "Nature" were opened and filled in by local residents between 2020 and 2022. We have accumulated over 1000 user records with images and information on the stories from the past and present of the district. A fourth interactive "Proposals" map was lounched in 2023 and accumulated over 240 user entries in three months. Based on the data, KTU researchers from the Faculty of Construction and Architecture conducted research that will contribute to creating the urban vision of Šančiai. The findings of the researchers are presented in the menu bar Maps> Map analysis.

Mapping activities were implemented during the project "Genius loci: urbanisation and civil community" in 2020-2023.

We implemented 28 mapping workshops with 1121 people - children, youth, adults and people with disabilities from the Šančiai district. During the workshops we collected data about the neighbourhood. A summary of the workshop results is available in the Sanciai Vision > Workshop Results at the menu bar.
